These photos follow the stucco going onto a contemporary home we are building in McLean, on the Clover SC side of Lake Wylie. The house started out wrapped, then the walls were papered and covered in metal lath, and the crew is now coating the trim bands around the front door and windows.

Stucco is not one coat. On this house it is eight steps: paper, metal lath, a scratch coat, a smooth brown coat, a glass mat coat, the trim pieces with their own brown coat, and two finish coats. The paper keeps water away from the sheathing behind it, and the lath gives the stucco something to hold on to. Once the finish coats go on, none of the work underneath can be seen again, which is why our superintendents photograph each layer in the daily log as it happens.

We have been building in McLean since its first phase, and if you own a lot there or are looking at one, we would be glad to walk it with you. You can read more about building in the community at https://mcspaddenhomes.com/mclean
