These photos are from a contemporary home we are finishing in Charlotte NC. The house is in its final weeks of work. The landscapers have set shrubs, boulders and new sod along the drive, the outside of the house has been washed down, and the appliances are going in. The exterior pairs stained horizontal wood siding with light gray walls, a dark masonry base and black-framed windows, under low-sloped roofs with deep overhangs.
Landscaping comes last for a reason. Before the first shrub goes in, the yard is graded to carry water away from the house, and the gutters are tied into drainage pipe run underground. That work is what keeps water away from the foundation. The last details are being finished at the same time: the porch ceilings are stained, the gutters and gutter guards are black to match the window frames, and the steps off the covered back porch are built.
We have built custom homes around Lake Wylie and Charlotte since 1987, on wooded lots like this one and on the water. You can see the communities and towns where we build at https://mcspaddenhomes.com/where-we-build
