These photos follow one wall of a home we are building in McLean, in Clover SC. The fireplace wall began as plywood backer around a linear firebox, with the wood mantel and the built-in cabinets and shelves on either side already in place. From there the stone went up on scaffolding, a few courses at a time, until it met the ceiling.

The surround is a stone veneer in a light, warm tone, laid in long, flat pieces. Because the mantel and shelving were set first, the stone around them was cut and fitted on site so it sits tight to the wood. Inside, the house is now in finishes: tile, door hardware and shower glass are going in. Outside, the pine ceiling work is nearly done, and the lake shows through the trees.
